Shelling Kills Civilians, Explosion Derails Freight Trains In Russia
A Russian governor says explosions rocked his region over two consecutive days. On Sunday, the governor of Bryansk Oblast posted on Telegram that four civilians had been killed by Ukrainian shelling. The next day, a train was derailed by an explosion.
Alexander Bogomaz, governor of the region that borders Ukraine, reported four civilians were killed during Sunday’s attack. “After today’s shelling of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the village of Suzemka, work continues on the removal of the rubble of the destroyed house. Currently, two more civilians have been found and removed from the rubble. Unfortunately, both of them died.” He continued, “In total, two citizens suffered from the actions of Ukrainian nationalists, they were taken to the hospital and are under the supervision of doctors. Four civilians were killed.”
Bogomaz claimed rockets struck some structures while others were intercepted. “The Ukrainian Armed Forces have bombarded the village of Suzemka again with MLRS. Several rockets were shot down by the air defense system of the Russian Armed Forces,” he said. Suzemka is just miles from the Ukrainian border.
On Monday, Bogomaz posted that his region again came under fire when an explosion derailed a freight train. “An unidentified explosive device went off at the 136th km of the Bryansk-Unecha railway in the Unechsky district, as a result of which a locomotive of a freight train derailed.” The governor continued, “There were no casualties.” Kiev has not commented on the attacks, which is typical. On Saturday, a drone struck an oil storage facility in Crimea. The attack caused a massive fire. Kiev did not say it was behind the drone strike but did assert the explosions were “god’spunishment.”
While Kiev does not acknowledge operations inside of Russia, last year, the Times of London spoke with members of the Ukrainian special operations forces who claimed to have been behind attacks inside of Russia. Those operations were carried out in the Belgorod Oblast, located near Bryansk Oblast, and were conducted by a Ukrainian battalion that fought alongside Western forces in Afghanistan.
